SANE-SART.com Adds “Rape Clock” in Honor of the Thousands of Americans Raped Every Year

Today, SANE-SART.com announced that it was adding a “Rape Clock” to its website, and encourages others to do the same. The “clock” is based on the statistic that one person in the United States is sexually assaulted every 1.85 minutes.  It displays on the website, tallying up the total number of sexual assaults that are statistically estimated to have happened in the United States so far this year.  As of this writing, on the fifth day of the year, the clock is already hauntingly over 3500.

The site encourages other organizations to copy their code and embed the counting clock on their own websites, helping to spread awareness of how big a problem sexual assault truly is in the united states, stating “building awareness can inspire a community to form a sexual assault response team (SART).”

We have spoken of how important SARTs are to the investigation, treatment, and prevention of sexual assault as well as how we at STM Learning work to provide proper training for members of SARTs.  According to SANE-SART.com’s new initiative, “SARTs are a proven approach for improving investigation and prosecution of the crime and providing victim-centered care and support.”

You can follow this link to add the Rape Clock to your own organization web page to help spread awareness and honor the many sexual assault victims in the United States each year.
